"Pleasant quiet overnight stay during the week... Room was clean, beds were comfortable, every room had its own safe balcony, breakfast wasn't bad and the grounds were kept clean even with painting maintenance going on. Great location right off the the freeway, close to Legoland, starbucks, restaurants, gas stations, and Carlsbad outlets are located directly across the street. Yes this is an older hotel not a resort (I think they actually changed the name to Hotel and dropped the resort) but the rooms were spacious , very clean and staff was friendly. It was perfect for a quick trip to Legoland, I would definatly stay here again if in the area."

"To be fair I could have done more research, but with this property advertising the closeness to the beach, I was disappointed at the lack of access to the beach from the property. If you walk across the street, and down a ways, there is a scary looking path that the surfers take down the cliff, but not a path I was willing to take my chances on. We actually had to drive a couple miles south to the state beach and park for better access to the beach. The staff was great and very accommodating to our extra towel req. The restaurant staff looked annoyed and ready to go home when we were there one evening. The food was not good. We ordered nachos, which was mostly chips and chicken, hardly any cheese. We also ordered cheesecake which tasted like it had been in the fridge for a while and had taken on the flavor of the other foods it had been next to. My daughter ordered a Sundae. The ice cream also tasted old and crystallized. At around $9.00 each this was very disappointing. "

"We stayed at the Castle Hotel. The hotel is expensive but always a good experience for the target audience Legoland is intended for. My 5 year old watches Ryan's Toy Review since she was a baby and he always goes to Legoland so this was a must do on our bucket list. The hotel is clean, room are small but creative and fits a family of 5 easily. Loved the royal courtyard how everything is in the center. Even though Carlsbad was 70 degrees and foggy the whole time, the weather is humid so its bearable. I was able to stay in a tank top and shorts most of the day/evening. Service is excellent. Free breakfast was nice with typical IHOP type of breakfast food. The restaurant itself is also good. Big portions. "
