"Everyone should try the capsule hotel experience at least one night when visiting Japan. So did I and picked this hotel based on the reviews on Agoda and couldn't be happier! The hotel is located in a 8 story building in Kabukicho, Shinjuku and it's very easy to get there. The reception is in floor 3, a common area for men & women with kitchen, restaurants, vending machines and internet café is located in floor 4. Floor 5 is used for day use capsules while the night capsules for men are located in floors 6 & 7. Women can stay in floor 8, separated from men. Staff was super nice and welcoming (contrary to some opinions here), they tried to help me from the very beginning and the people I talked to spoke fairly good English. Although customers are assigned a small locker with enough space to leave the clothes in a changing room, bigger luggage can be stored on some shelves present in both the changing room and in front of the reception. Don't be scared of leaving your items there, this is Japan and everybody respects your belongings. The place is clean and the capsule is much bigger than pictured!! Inside there is a control panel for the light, alarm, air conditioner and television, a power socket and a mirror along with the pillow and a duvet. All capsules have a curtain than can be opened/closed for privacy and but beware that some noises can come inside if other guests speak loudly (usually don't). The hotel also has a traditional Japanese bath (onsen) and sauna. Don't forget to try it before you leave! Checkout time is at 10 am and luggage cannot be stored after checking out. I had a great experience at Shinjuku Kuyakusho-mae Capsule Hotel and will definitely come back in my next trip to Tokyo."

"I have no expectation at all before check-in, because it shows the size of the room is extremely small in comparison with my past stay in other tokyo hotels. Nevertheless, its design and room setting were perfectly matching for my requirement, so I would definitely stay there again if I visit Tokyo shortly in future! And I would also definitely recommend it to my friends! BTW, the hotel staffs are also nice! Including cleaning staffs and the staffs at reception! "

"This was my first time staying in a capsule hotel purely out of necessity, I rather reluctantly booked this for 3 nights thinking I was going to hate it but I had no other choice. This was one of the best hotel choices I've ever made whilst in Japan! This Capsule hotel is located right in the middle of Ueno's Ameyoko shopping street, a great little area to stay that is close to the subway. It has this great feeling of a day spa, with a nice big onset and sauna all part of the experience. There is a large TV room with these awesome leather lazy boy air chairs, and a separate quiet room with air chairs with personal tv's attached. There is also a massage facility on hand 24hrs a day (at extra cost) Food facilities are available through the use of vending machines which can pump out hot dogs, noodles, burgers and beer. The capsules themselves are pretty good; not uncomfortable but simply a place to sleep and nothing else. You must stay here even if only for one night if you come to Tokyo. The only warning I can give is that if you are a non-smoker you may be bothered by the smoking in the TV areas and changing rooms."

"I travel to Tokyo every few months for business. This is the perfect hotel for that. Location is central, close to Ginza, Akihara, Tokyo station and only 15min to Shinjuku, 25 min to Shibuya. One step away from the metro station exit. Direct train from Haneda or Narita. Room is small but enough space (so do the other hotels in Tokyo), clean and modern. Bed and comforter is very comfy during the cold nights. Pillows are not like the western type that I know of (fluffy and kinna thick), they r very thin. But I get used to them. They provide enough amenities that you don't have to bring anything from home. Toothbrush, comb, body sponge, hairband are provided. Hairdryer, electric kettle with coffee and tea. They have the Japanese robe, yukata that I can use to sleep. So I don't normally bring pj. "

"I traveled with a friend and this place was a great and affordable option to stay in Tokyo that saved us hundreds from regular hotel costs. For longer than 1 night stays I recommend getting the private rooms, there are 2 on each floor. They come with a private space (note the walls do not go to the ceiling, it is not sound proof and the doors do not lock) that has a desk and a locker that locks (carry on luggage can fit in here). Each sleeping floor has a toilet room with multiple toilets and some sinks that were hidden behind some curtains with soap. You have to go to another floor for shower and common rooms (to talk etc). The place is really nice and clean, they provide lots of amenities like toothbrush and soaps so they are great for solo travelers and group travelers (that dont mind being separated) that are looking for good value without having to really compromise on living quality. I do not recommend this for couples as males and females are separated at all times."

"Stayed in double bed room. Room size is what one would expect of hotels in Tokyo, quite small, enough room for 1 person to walk at a time. Bathroom was quite small too, but can't complain if you are able to shower and relief yourself. Hotel is about 300m walk from Shinjuku's Kabukicho exit, you can walk there easily. Along the way, you'll go past lots of eateries so you'll have plenty to choose from for meals. The place can get a bit lively in the evenings, mostly youngsters and young working adults will make up most of the crowd. So if you want a peaceful evening, you may want to look elsewhere. Otherwise, this is a nice place to enjoy company, a good meal and drinks later. Finally, the staff, they were great. Accommodating, allowed me to leave my baggage there for a few hours before check-in and after check-out. Will stay again."

"The only cons were that it got a bit too warm in the capsule even with the fan on, and the noise from other travellers in the mornings if you are wanting to sleep in a bit. Noise is unavoidable in places like this though, and everyone was doing their best to be quiet so heavy sleepers shouldn't have a problem. I was amazed at the amount of things included in the cost! I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and would do it again (probably just for one night at a time) if I return to Tokyo :)"

More about Tokyo

Uncover the Magic of Tokyo Japan

Tokyo is a city that effortlessly blends the ancient with the ultra-modern, creating a unique atmosphere that captivates every traveler. From the serene temples and historic shrines dotting the landscape to the towering skyscrapers and neon-lit streets, Tokyo offers a glimpse into the harmonious coexistence of tradition and innovation. As you stroll through the bustling streets, you’ll encounter a rich tapestry of cultural experiences, from traditional tea ceremonies to cutting-edge technology exhibitions.

One of the most enchanting aspects of Tokyo is its vibrant neighborhoods, each with its own distinct personality. For instance, the historic district of Asakusa is home to the famous Sensoji Temple, where visitors can experience the spiritual side of the city. In contrast, the trendy streets of Harajuku showcase the latest in fashion and youth culture, making it a hotspot for those looking to immerse themselves in Tokyo's contemporary scene. Whether you're a history buff, a foodie, or a shopping enthusiast, there’s something here for everyone.

While exploring Tokyo, be prepared to be amazed by the culinary delights that await you. The city is renowned for its diverse food scene, from Michelin-starred restaurants to humble street food stalls. Indulge in local specialties such as sushi, ramen, and tempura, or try something unique like gyukatsu (breaded and fried beef cutlet). The dining options are endless, and every meal is an opportunity to savor the flavors of Japan.

Best Time to Experience Tokyo

The best time to visit Tokyo largely depends on what you hope to experience during your stay. Spring, particularly late March to early April, is famous for the breathtaking cherry blossoms that blanket the city in delicate pink hues. Parks such as Ueno Park become popular spots for hanami (flower viewing) picnics, where locals and tourists alike gather to celebrate the beauty of nature. The weather during this season is generally mild, making it perfect for exploring outdoor attractions.

As summer approaches, the city heats up, and festivals come alive. From late June to early August, you can witness vibrant events like the Sumida River Fireworks Festival, where dazzling fireworks light up the night sky. However, be prepared for the humidity and occasional rain showers. Autumn, on the other hand, offers a picturesque setting with colorful foliage, particularly in parks like Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. The crisp air and stunning scenery make it an ideal time for leisurely strolls and outdoor activities.

Winter in Tokyo brings a unique charm, especially with the festive illuminations that adorn various neighborhoods. The holiday season is a magical time to visit, with attractions like Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Skytree offering special events and displays. Although temperatures can drop, the city’s cozy cafes and warm hospitality make it a delightful experience for those who embrace the winter chill.

Essential Travel Tips for Your Tokyo Adventure

Before setting off on your Tokyo adventure, it's important to familiarize yourself with some essential travel tips that will enhance your experience. First and foremost, understanding local customs and etiquette can go a long way in showing respect to the culture. For instance, bowing is a common greeting, and removing your shoes before entering someone's home is customary. Additionally, it's polite to say “arigatou gozaimasu” (thank you) when receiving services or favors.

Language can be a barrier, but learning a few basic phrases in Japanese can make a significant difference. Simple greetings like “konnichiwa” (hello) and “sayonara” (goodbye) are great starting points. While many signs in Tokyo are in English, knowing how to ask for directions or order food in Japanese can enhance your interactions with locals. Don't hesitate to carry a phrasebook or use translation apps on your phone to bridge any communication gaps.

When it comes to transportation, Tokyo boasts an efficient public transit system that includes trains, subways, and buses. Purchasing a prepaid Suica or Pasmo card is highly recommended, as it allows for seamless travel across the city. Remember to be mindful of rush hour, as trains can get quite crowded. Lastly, it's always a good idea to have a portable Wi-Fi device or a local SIM card to stay connected while exploring the city.
