Jammu and Kashmir hotels & places to stay

hotel is clean, staff is well behaved but hotel is slightly away from the market and there is a really steep slope to reach the hotel. The hotel should at least provide free rides within 1 km of the area or at least from reception to main gate. Else all was fine. Slightly overpriced as well. It is a renovated hotel and at many places the patch job isnt that great. However great view, courteous staff makes up for it

Located right across a field of lush meadows is Vintage — a modern hotel with generous-sized rooms and all amenities required including 24x7 hot water, heating, kettle for making tea (yes they have green tea too), sleek bathroom fittings and decent views. Once again the staff was courteous and warm and ensured we had a comfortable stay. The rooms are spacious enough to fit travellers with kids and are well lit. The contemporary decor is subtly blended with traditional accents — tastefully done. They have a fast-working central heating system (in the bathroom too). Food as many others have said is definitely the best in Gulmarg. A decent selection of breakfast with fruits, juices, continental and Indian spread. The cafe serves delicious soups, pizza and pasta and their Indian fare deserves a special mention, especially the navratan korma. I was surprised that across Kashmir bottles are moderately charged on the MRP (actual street prices not the inflated prices you see on airplanes).

The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa is a top notch 5 star hotel located very close to the major attractions in Gulmarg, the Gondola ride. It is just 5 minutes walk away from the hotel. The hotel is also centrally heated and have an amazing view of the mountain and hills. It is one of the best 5 stars hotels that I've ever stayed in. Will definitely recommend to others and will go back to them if I ever go back to Gulmarg. The local guides are a greedy bunch of people, so beware!

Even before I checked into my room, the Managers, Haseeb and Sajad created such a good impression. Both gentlemen are the most polite and friendly and professional managers I have ever seen. Men like them truly makes a difference at the place where you stay. One would truly enjoy their stay at the Walisons as long as Mr Sajad and Mr Haseeb are on duty. They have the touch to make a 3 star hotel into a 5 star hotel. The rooms were extremely cozy and confortable. Winter was cold and the hot water and hot matress were working well. Truly a memorable stay at Kashmir. Under the management of Mr Sajad and Mr Haseeb, the bell boys are well behaved and extremely disciplined and DONT ask for a tip after carrying your bags, something that you rarely see in India where the bell boys are always tip hungry.

It is a very well known hotel in Katra, hence easy to reach. Staff is very cooperative. Room was clean. Location of the hotel is bit isolated. Its near by the market but there is around a distance of 200 m which is very isolated hence we preffered to take an auto while going to the market. View of the mountains from my room was very eye soothing. Overall a very nice stay.

Except for the location, which is very bad, right in the middle of Bus Terminus, Lords Inn can be categorized Excellent in almost all areas. It's very neat and clean, the rooms are quite big, with all the facilities matching world Standards. Apart from this, the staff are very courteous and helpful. Prices of eatables in room service menu are quite high, rather prohibitive. This needs to be rationalized.

Staying on the Mascot Houseboat was a most enriching experience. The location by the quiet and tranquil Nageen Lake with traditional boats and surrounded by high green hills made it easy to unwind. The houseboat itself is a masterpiece of traditional Kashmiri handcraft, the carvings were many and the textile decorations together created a very special environment and atmosphere. The friendly and familial yet professional approach by the Tuman brothers, owners of this family enterprise established in 1880, made us not only relax at the houseboat but also facilitated and guided our travelling in Srinagar and the surrounding Kashmir valley. In the evenings we enjoyed the traditional Kashmiri food that was served in the dining room on the houseboat by the professional and caring staff. Would be happy to return.

To start with, it was an excellent stay at New Golden. Mr. Yaqub/Owner is terrific person and can be your guide not only in srinagar but also whole of kashmir. His brother was also equally attentive and helpful. Some may say that it is at Nagin Lake so away from market. But believe me, for market, you spend 2-3 hours but other time u need to relax,enjoy nature, calmness of kashmir. U can always goto market in car n come back. But for that, DONT ever go and stay at Dal lake. Location: This HB is located at a best location in nagin lake. Sunrise and even mountain views are good. No road noise & quiet place. Shikara ride is better at this place as no people to disturb u. At Dal lake, vendors come and distrub u in your romantic ride. FOOD: Mr. Yaqub serves homely food & the choice of menu is yours. In other HB's hotel food is brought from restaurents and served. Dinner and bfast was excellent. For 06 people bfast, he served us Poha, Upma, cornflakes, toast, omlette which we were not expecting. Also hot milk for kids. STAFF: Apart from owners (readily at your service), for our HB there was seperate full time butler. He will always be there to listen to ur orders. If I am not forgotten, he was Imran. OVERALL must stay HB in Srinagar and avoid DAL LAKE.

I would stay here again. I recommend it as the best hotel in Jammu. The price is better than for lesser hotels, and the accommodations better than higher hotels. The staff was very exceptional, and helpful, and friendly. They made sure all our needs were met, and above. They served a fruit plate every day. Had as much water as we needed to drink. This hotel had everythng needed for a good stay. The Chinese and Indian restaurant upstairs was very good. Rooftop not so desirable but set up for indiscreet drinking. The breakfast pretty standard Indian breakfast with some western foods.

PROBABLY ON OF THE FINEST LOCATIONS IN JAMMU HOWEVER THE PLACE NEEDS A COMPLETE OVERHAUL IN TERMS OF FACILITIES , CLEANLINESS , STAFF MANAGEMENT .. PATHETIC BREAKFAST(COMPLEMENTARY) I EVEN DID NOT FEELING LIKE HAVING IT ON THE 3RD AND 4TH DAY THE PLACE NEEDS AN OVERHAUL IN TERMS OF FACILITIES , STAFF MANAGEMENT AND CLEANLINESS THE FOOD WHICH WE ORDERED (ALA -CARTE) SEEMED TO BE BELOW STANDARD AND BASICALLY NEEDS A REVAMP ALSO JUST KEEP IN MIND IF YOU ARE BOOKING THE PLAVE IN MARRIAGE SEASONS THEN YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED AS MOST OF THE TIME YOU WILL BE FORCED TI HEAR THE LOUD SOUND OF DJ'S EVERY NOW AND THEN HAMPERING YOUR PEACE OF MIND AND STAY I WISH THIS FEEDBACK TRVELS TO THE MANAGEMENT AND THEY TAKE A NOTE OF IT

Mr Feroz and his family are really awesome and honest people. You can rely on Mr Feroz as he won't rip you off. To him, your satisfactory is his priority. It was very unfortunate that Jammu&Kashmir was on a strike and I can't see a lot of things. However, Feroz make sure that I at least see something in Srinagar. I had such a memorable time in Srinagar largely owe to him and his family. You won't regret staying with him.

As per its name suggests, hotel royal krishna perfectly sticks to its commitment completely. According to me, royal krishna is one of the finest and luxurious hotels to make your stay memorable and worth spending. Easily accessible around the centre of main market, balganga and helipad. In-house transport facility was beyond our expectations as they were approachable and extremely helpful even at the 11th hour of the night ( just a phone call away). Hospitality given by Manager RAJ at the reception was commendable. Room service was expeditious. Cuisine served by in-house restaurant was hygienic and tasty. Overall experience at this property was speechless, couldn’t have asked for more! ONE MUST PREFER RESIDING IN HOTEL ROYAL KRISHNA IF LOOKING FORWARD FOR A WONDERFUL STAY. Heads up👍

Located on quiet Nigeen Lake, from this houseboat we enjoyed many serene mornings with stunning views of the mountains reflected on the placid water. There a two houseboats, one "family style" with common areas and rooms rented individually, and a second, 2 bedroom/2 bath boat for private rentals. The larger boat is pictured. The smaller boat is not as nicely decorated, but is still charming. The bathrooms could have been cleaner for our stay. We noticed here and in other places in India the use of a product called "odonil" that is supposed to be an air freshener, but its is sort of like moth balls. I didn't like it at all and removed it! The staff was exceptionally helpful, courteous, and friendly. Adnan, the owner, helped us to arrange our activities. We had a guide with us almost constantly, which is not our usual style, but was perhaps necessary because we went on many excursions. Expect to be approached by hawkers frequently. Although there was a police presence, there was no evidence of any upheaval and we felt utterly and completely safe. Kashmir is distinctly different from the rest of India, and worth visiting. Srinagar is a beautiful city, and if we return we would definitely stay on a houseboat again. Adnan was an outstanding host!
