We had a great stay at the Gate Hostel on our weekend trip to Fukuoka! We booked two beds in the dormitory style room, but when we checked in, they gave us a private room instead!! We were more than happy with the upgrade. The location is great, we walked around Tenjin and Nakasu for dinner/shopping/entertainment. There are konbinis all over, and a convenient parking lot right across from the hostel, which we could see from our bedroom window, and it only cost ~¥1100/24 hrs. The common areas of the hostel are nice, though we didn’t use them much. The laundry room would be useful for long term visitors, or people in the middle of a long trip. Coming and going was easy, even late at night, with the electronic access code doors. If I had to be very picky, my only complaints are that the outlets/shelf above the bed was quite dusty, and it would’ve been nice to have a streaming device (like Amazon fire stick) in the tv in the private room, instead of just in the common kitchen area tv.

Overall is very good. Highly recommended. I'm very impressed with staffs, they are friendly, nice and helpful. The staff help to book a taxi service to pick me up at hostel to the airport in the earlier morning. Even if my friends whom stayed in another hotel where is no receptionist stand by and my friends can't speak both English & Japanese when I asked the staff here to help booking for them as well , they don't hesitate to help. .They are very very kind and I really appreciate. If I visit Fukuoka next time , I will be back to stay here again.

Stayed here for 4 nights. Beds are reallu comfy, hostel is clean everywhere and theres a common area at fifth floor with kitchen. I recommend this hostel for everyone! Staff are very helpful, they even booked a bus for me from a japanese website which i couldnt understand. If i return to fukuoka i will stay here again. Thanks!!!

Had a really great stay at The Gate Hostel. Was greeted by the staff at the front desk. She is very cute and friendly. I requested to leave my bag in the hostel before check in time and they keep it in a safe place where only authorise person could enter, super safe! Toilet and basically every corner is very clean. They provide small lockers for personal belongings and also super cheap deal for bicycle rental. Love this place! :)

Walking distance from city center, though you can always take the train. Hotel manager Sachi-san and the staff are all super nice and assists whenever possible. Free food (rice topped with garnishing) on the 5th flr every morning. Quiet neighborhood. Vakue for money. Would definitely stay again when back in Fukuoka.

Great hostel near Nakasu with super friendly staff!!”
This hostel is located near Nakasu (Walking distance) across the river and 10-min walk to two train stations (either Nakasu-kawabata or Gofuku-machi). Nakasu-kawabata station is directly linked to the airport, so it's super convenient. There are some convenience stores 24/7 near the hostel too. The hostel has several floors including private and shared rooms as well as common dinning (with great kitchen facilities and big fridges) and laundry space (with detergent installed). The entrance/reception space is also spacious and used as a cafe. The staff are super friendly and nice including the owners. I stayed in a "scenic city view" room with a double bed, a desk&chairs, and a window. This room type is basically a space separated by curtains and wooden walls in a large room - my room got 5 sub-rooms, i.e., 5 couples in total. Unlike normal dormitory rooms with many beds, the room was almost completely private, which was a big plus for me. Great value for money. Highly recommended!

Really comfy and with all facilities”
It's a very comfy capsule hostel. The price was good for Japan and they actually upgraded me from single bed to double bed. Curtains, hangers plug and usb connector at the bed and headlamp. The bed was very comfortable (one of the best I've been sleeping ever) and warm. Everything is very clean everywhere and quite modern. Locks are small tho. Room for luggage is very safe and locked. Common room is either their bar/reception (ground floor) or the 5th floor (there is elevator) where the kitchen is. Every morning there is some free rice with seaweed available (look at the instruction on the wall!) and sometimes there is takoyaki (and a drink) for dinner. Delicious! Stuff is very helpful and kind (English depends on the person). WiFi works good and location is good enough (maybe 15-20 min walking from Tenjin).

Suitable for every backpackers”
-The hostel is cheap compared to others. -Location is near to the town, it takes about 10 minutes to walk to nakasukawabata station and to tenjin. -The hostel is clean, however the toilets can be very wet after other tourists use it. They messed up the toilets a bit. -Staff is okay, friendly but can't really speak English. However, they are very helpful. -The facilities are perfect, I thought the bed was small but it was nice and cosy. The toilets and shampoos etc are excellent! I love the toiletries they provided. We chilled outside the hostel and met some foreign friends too. The free breakfast was rice and seaweed soup, I really like it. They also have washing machine and a dryer, the dryer was kinda useless because our clothes didnt dry completely so we ended up dry them in our bed space. Overall was okay, its my first time in Japan and I'd definitely stay here again one day

One night at The Gate”
The Gate has just recently opened its doors and they're doing a fantastic job, the place is clean, the service is super friendly, the facilities are great. In my opinion they're doing everything the right way and they can become the next place to stay at if they continue to do things this way, my only concern is the place needs to have a some more atmosphere, the lobby even though is beautiful seems kinda cold and quiet, I would have some board games/books/origami paper available for guests to hang out there and make it seem more fun and attract the attention of more customers! Also, there isn't a whole lot in the kitchen, we cooked pasta and there was no strainer, I hope they correct this soon because when they get full guests will complain (believe me, 4 glasses won't be nearly enough) Great job The Gate!

Hostel is new, clean, well-attended and the lay-out is functional. It can even be at par with higher priced hostels. The design of the bunk bed gives your privacy, though of course, not sound proof because only separated by wood and curtain. Free shampoo, body wash, cotton buds, use of hair dryer, but you have to bring own towel and slippers, otherwise, you can purchase a set from them. We wanted to try the bar at the ground floor, but we found payment system quite confusing, so we did not bother.

The staff are very friendly and nice, and speak fairly good english. Paid ~65 for a double size bed for two people. The beds are pretty new, but the layout is cramped and the ceiling is low and poorly designed, you will hit your head. Location is far from everything, but Fukuoka is pretty small you can walk between everything popular within an hour (~5km)

Great but basic hostel”
We loved this hostel, it was simple and compact but still spacious and clean. Average common room with decent cooking facilities. Safety could be improved with maybe a code to the rooms, but there’s a small locker provided for valuables so not that big of an issue. The staff were very helpful and even booked a tour for us over the phone to help with the language barrier.

Hostel is clean and tidy”
The hostel is located in a quiet residential area. Staff members are polite and friendly and are always there to help. Sockets are provided for each bed. There are enough bathrooms so you don't need to wait which is great. It is convenient that there is space for storing your luggage in each room. The only shortcoming is that the bed could be quite hot when the curtain is pulled.

We shared a semi double bed in the 30 People dorm. Be warned that 30 "people" actually means 30 beds, which are for couples so you will share with 60 people. This said, we did not really notice that it was so many people. Beds and showers were satisfingly clean and the matress was surprisingly soft and nice. One of the best sleeps we had in Japan. It seems to be recently opened so keep in mind that standarts might go down. Staff is very nice, but had trouble answering our questions (because they were travellors not locals). The location is not ideal, but walking into the city is still doable. Not many restaurants around. Also, why do you want to come to Fukuoka? Nagasaki is so much nicer! We did not find much here that interessted us

Shared common room, great location”
Very near hakata, and nakasu area. Relatively near tenjin area. Walkable to don quijote nakasu, ichiran nakasu and nakasukawabata station. Staffs were nice and friendly, free water dispenser (just bring container),with also common kitchen, bathroom and toilet.

Beds are comfy and the shared bedspace is conducive for sleeping. This is my second time in this hostel. The upkeep is quite good. Not much has changed since I first stayed here in October of last year, several months after it opened. Although for my most recent trip, there were a number of more cheap options, I still chose this one for all the above reasons and more.

the hostel is comparatively cheaper than the other hotels in the city but the distance is a bit far from the Nakasu Kawabata station. looking for this hostel was a bit tricky at first. it's our first time to stay in a hostel and there are pros and cons. Pros: a lot of opportunities to interact with other guests if you spend time at the common room. lots of charging stations in your room, and the lobby. shared bathroom not crowded. cons: depending on the room that you booked, we only got bed space. one of us had to pack and repack at the room's hallway. Although there's a locker enough to store 1 person's bit of belongings like laptop. the hostel is a bit far from the station. Suggesting the hostel or Agoda to specify detailed directions on how to get there, like which is the nearest exit to take, etc. Not all people are adept at reading maps.

The people who work in this hostel are really nice! They directly make you comfortable and in the evening, they organize a dinner with all others guest who want to share. The ambiance was really great. Unfortunately the common restrooms was often not so clean. The problem come from the users, but that's why we told something about the cleanliness.
